Pinoy charged with murder and attempted murder in San Jose

Prosecutors in San Jose, California charged a Filipino man on Monday with murder and attempted murder, after he opened fire at a group of off-duty Oakland firefighters, killing one of them.

According to police, 27-year-old Pinoy Oliver Juinio walked up to a group of 5 firefighters near the city’s Japantown, when he shot at them, in what is being described as an unprovoked attack.

While one of the victims is expected to survive, 30-year-old firefighter Jake Walter was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Juinio, who has two prior felonies, is being held without bail in Santa Clara county’s main jail and was scheduled for an arraignment today, where he could face life in prison.
