HOLLYWOOD — Filipino boxer Aston Palicte, who was recently signed by an American boxing legend, has been in the States training to make it big.
One of the Philippines most hyped, 115 pound prospects, Palicte, of Negros Occidental, is putting in a final week of work at the Wild Card Gym…ready to show that he can be the next in the line of Filipino world champions.
“Marami marami sila aabang daan kasi kung baga Gawin ko lahat Para eto pinakang fandango laban sa mga laban,” Palicte said. “To kaya grave yung preparation ko. Sa Manila na gang gang dito. Talaga Buhos ko lahat kasi gusto ko mag kita ng tao ano si Aston.
Standing at 5’7, the 25 year old—who is now promoted by Roy Jones Junior—will make his American debut on Las Vegas on December 17th at the Downtown Las Vegas Events Center.
Palicte will be trying to capture a few regional belts against undefeated American Oscar Cantu.
“Gusto gusto ko nga yung walang talo kasi sila dati yung mga pangarap ko. Yung mga undefeated tsaka masaya ako nakaka kalaban ko sya at tsaka proud ako makakalaban ko mga galing. Siempre kailangan mo rin na mag train ng na ayos and talonin mo din mga galing para sumikat.”
At a record of 21-wins-and-2 losses, Palicte—also known in the ring as “Mighty”—is training in the US under former boxing world champion Rodel Mayol.
He’s shown his knockout power, winning 18 of his fights by stoppage. He has been at training at Wild Card boxing gym since last week.
“Ok na naman naka adjust na and katawan ko at tsaka medjo nakaka tulog na na ayos Hindi katulad dati kasi sa huling linggo medjo, so medjo ok naka adjust na ako,” Palicte said.
Team Palicte will leave for Las Vegas early next week for the big fight.
Although his first match, Palicte is working hard to make sure it won’t be the last.
