Pinoy arrested in Jacksonville for alleged mass shooting plot at Islamic Center
In Jacksonville, Florida, authorities arrested a Filipino man on Friday for allegedly planning a mass shooting at a local Islamic Center.
“In late October of this year, JSO detectives received information from a confidential source that an individual named Bernardino Bolate had expressed a strong anti-Islamic sentiment and was planning to conduct a mass shooting of individuals at the Islamic Center of Northeast Florida on Saint John Bluffs Road,” said Sheriff Mike Williams of the Jacksonville sheriff’s office.
Authorities say an undercover investigation confirmed that 69-year-old Bernandino Gawala Bolatete was making plans to carry out a mass shooting, and already had the necessary weapons to do so.
Bolatete is charged with knowingly receiving and possessing a silencer not registered to him.
Authorities say that as the investigation continues, he could face more charges. Bolatete was scheduled to make his first appearance in federal court earlier this afternoon.
