PINOY ACCUSED OF KILLING WIFE APPEARS IN COURT

POMONA, California – The man accused of murdering his wife appeared in court on Wednesday to postpone his arraignment, as he searches for an attorney to represent him in his murder case.

Police say Tomas Infante, 60, killed his wife Charito Tolentino, possibly in their home in West Covina and then put her body inside her Toyota Rav 4. He then allegedly abandoned the vehicle some 20 miles away at a Hawaiian Gardens casino parking lot over the weekend.

“A body was recovered. The deceased is connected to the defendant and charges of murder have been filed. We set the next day of February 13 to gather more evidence and fully prosecute this case,” said Deputy District Attorney Casey Higgins.

Investigators say Tolentino died from blunt force trauma and stab injuries. Prior to the discovery of her body, Infante had reported Tolentino missing. However, upon searching their West Covina home, investigators found evidence, which they declined to specify, implicating him of the murder.

Infante was arrested on Monday. He faces one count of murder. The maximum sentence is life in prison without the possibility of parole.
“At this time, we’re still reviewing the evidence and doing our analysis of the evidence…but the evidence right now shows we have reasonable doubt against him in connection with these charges,” added Higgins.

Friends and family of the couple were at the courthouse but declined to speak on camera. They did confirm that Tolentino was also Filipino. They added that the couple’s 17-year old daughter who lives with them is in the care of relatives but declined to elaborate. Infante remains in custody on a one million dollar bail.
