Pinay X-Factor Australia winner Marlisa Punzalan to perform at vets charity game

SAN FRANCISCO – As the Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers face-off at Super Bowl 50 in the San Francisco Bay Area on February 7th other warriors are taking the field a day earlier.

Disabled veterans from the Wounded Warriors Amputee Football Team will be playing flag football against NFL alumni and celebrities as part of a campaign to raise awareness and support for wounded warriors and their families.

And the 2014 X-Factor Australia winner Marlisa Punzalan will be performing for the event.

The 16-year-old is the daughter of Filipino parents who immigrated to Australia before she was born.

Filipino-American Councilman of Daly City Mike Guingona was tapped by the organization to help rally the Filipino community behind this benefit event.

“I think you’ll never get to a chance to see that type of talent and to be able to do two things and that is to honor our veterans which is a great thing to do and second to share in our great culture,” said Gunigona.

According to Punzalan’s Instagram, she is very excited to come to the Bay Area and celebrate our veterans.

And Guingona says that through communicating with Punzalan’s Filipino family he is glad that they are coming to the event in full force.

“He connected me with the mom and everyone is going to come out and the good thing is that they’re coming out at their own expense and when they found out it was a benefit event for veterans they came immediately,” said Guingona.

The game takes place a day before the Super Bowl, Saturday, February 6th at College Heights Stadium on the campus of the College of San Mateo.

For those in the area tickets can be purchased at the venue or online at

Students and children are free.
