A Filipina teacher in Baton Rouge, La. accused of assaulting a wheel chair bound student is out on bail.

Nerelyn Soreta was freed on a $10,000 bond after she was accused of attacking a student in a wheel chair.

She turned herself in to authorities earlier this week after cell phone video captured her alleged slapping a nine year old special needs student.

She was charged with simple battery of the infirm and faces six months in prison if convicted.

The East Baton Rouge Parish school is investigating the incident.

Soreta was reportedly among some 300 Filipino teachers in Louisiana who were found to be human trafficking victims in 2010.

She is now on administrative leave with pay until further notice.

In a press statement emailed to Balitang America, Soreta’s legal counsel Attorney Yigal Bander said that her client is innocent.
