Pinay killed in road accident in Edmonton

EDMONTON, ALBERTA — A kababayan was killed in an unfortunate road accident a few weeks before Christmas.

Mareanne Mariano was walking across James Mowatt Trail in an unmarked crosswalk, when she was hit by a Dodge Ram truck. The driver called 911 immediately.

Mariano was treated at the scene and was brought to the hospital, where she was declared dead.

Mariano worked as a medical receptionist at the Mic medical imaging.
She was on her way to the bus stop when the accident happened.

Family and friends are shocked and saddened by her death.

The collision happened in a newer neighborhood being built at the southern part of the city.
On one side of the road is a condo development under construction while the other side is a farmer’s field.

“You can hear her laughter in the room. I know for sure that she is a very loving daughter and sister. Kahit na konti lang yong pagkakilala namin I know for sure that she’s a good person,” said Pia Liberty.

According to Edmonton, police service this is the city’s 29th traffic fatality of the year.

Police do not believe drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash and they are asking witnesses to come forward to help them in their investigation.
