LAS VEGAS, NV — It has been 5 years since the murder of Ashley Indico and her unborn baby shook the Fil-Am community in the valley.
After all, the killer is her own sister in law, Elinor, who was taken in by her husband, Aris, while she was going through tough times.
But their good deed turned into a deadly tragedy.
“Living this burden for the rest of my life is the battle I’ve been fighting for,” says Indico.
“We have some relief that its finally over, the kids have that security that they finally got justice for their mom,” says his sister Heather.
It only took 20 minutes for the members of the jury to deliberate and come out with the verdict on 35-year-old Elinor Indico.
“When the DA called me and say hey this is the outcome, my heart sank, not in joyful scenario, but more like I just relived the fact that ii just lost my wife my baby and now I lost my sister too. It was something that I put a real bad, bad tears in my eyes.”
On Friday, Elinor was found guilty on 3 charges: open murder with a deadly weapon, manslaughter by killing an unborn child, and guilty on abuse of children and neglect.
Elinor Indico could be spending the rest of her life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Aris said it was tough to recount what happened that day in October of 2013.
“The defense was pretty brutal against me, it broke my heart as a brother, it still broke my heart talking about it.”
In October 2013, 9-months-pregnant Ashley Indico was brutally murdered in her Las Vegas apartment. Elinor claimed it was self-defense.
When asked if he could forgive his own flesh and blood, Aris had this to say: “Is she my sister no matter what, she is my blood no matter what, would I forget about it, no would I accept that forgiveness.”
Elinor Indico remains in jail as she awaits sentencing on June 26th of this year.
