Pia Wurtzbach: Judging Miss Universe is harder than you think

CERRITOS, CA — A big Los Angeles welcome for Miss Universe 2015, Pia Wurtzbach.

Fresh from her stint as a Miss Universe judge, Wurtzbach appeared with manager Jonas Gaffud at a book signing event.

Wurtzbach arrived from Las Vegas, where she judged the Miss Universe pageant over the weekend.

For her, being back in Planet Hollywood brought back fond memories of her 2015 victory.

“To go back to Planet Hollywood, where I was crowned in 2015, was my first time going back there and every corner of Planet Hollywood reminded me of back then my time at Miss Universe. So it was nice. It was nice to go back,” she said.

She admits being on the other side of the stage was not an easy task.

“It was definitely harder being a judge than being a Miss Universe, it’s harder…you think it’s so easy because when you watch it on TV. And you’re like oh, it should be like this or like that but then when you see them in person, and you feel the energy especially coming from the crowd yeah. It’s hard.”

While Rachel Peters was not able to follow in her footsteps to the crown, Wurtzbach received backlash from Netizens blaming her for the loss. While she can’t reveal too much about the judging process, she says she judged fairly.

“I was fair to everyone, not just to miss Philippines — but also the other candidates. And I think that’s why they chose me, because they knew I was going to be fair and impartial when it comes to judging or choosing the next Miss Universe.”

Wurtzbach left for Manila shortly after the book signing, ready to go home and continue her work.
