Team Philippines recognized at World Hip Hop championships

The Philippines got four major awards during the World Hip Hop dance championship held at the Grand Canyon arena in Phoenix, Arizona last Saturday.

A total of nine teams with approximately 150 delegates represented the Philippines at the competition this year. Seven got into the semifinal rounds competing against 24 teams, eight in each division.

Hybrids of hip-hop from Davao City placed 8th. The adult division has five to nine members with ages 18 and older.

Megacrew winning teams maintained the same ranking in the semifinal rounds. Kindred got the bronze, while fusion got silver,

The jukebox from Mexico received the gold medal, while LMN from Manila placed 5th.

This is the second year that Arizona hosted the largest and most respected street dance competition in the world — and just like last year, Arizonans welcomed our kababayans with open arms.

Although the Philippines did not get any gold this year, delegates and their chaperones were pleased with the championship results including the Fil-Am community of Arizona. A victory party was held to thank these dancers for making it to the international dance scene once again.
