LONG BEACH, CA — Let the games begin. The 22nd World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) kicked off in style over the weekend, with Jed Madela and Filipinos taking the stage as team Philippines won first place for national costume.
This year, the Philippines had the largest delegation, sending 87 contestants from Mindanao royalty and a Philippine Idol Champion, with diverse talent representing all sizes and ages.
Global Filipinos from other countries — from Canada, Saipan, the U.S., and Great Britain — have flown out to Long Beach to showcase their country and their talents.
Throughout the week, thousands of talents will perform and take workshops.
The WCOPA finals take place on Friday night.
Last year, the Philippines took home both senior and junior grand championships.
