REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – Beginners luck may have nothing to do with it because for the Philippine cheer team, it took hard work and a lot of skills to bag third place last Friday at the International Cheer Union World Championship in Orlando, Fla.

In their first-ever appearance, Team Pilipinas took home the bronze in the “All Girl Elite Cheer Division.”

The team consists of 27 cheerleaders, ranging from high school to college students representing Philippine schools like St. Paul College Pasig, University of Santo Tomas, Ateneo, and others.

Team Pilipinas was also known for winning in the World Cup Cheer in Brisbane, Australia. They also bagged a gold medal in the first-ever South East Asian Cheerleading Open in Singapore in March 2011.

Now, Team Pilipinas ranks as the number one cheer team in Southeast Asia and number three in the whole world.
