Philippine consulates work to ensure timely overseas absentee ballots for voters

DALY CITY, CALIF. — Just like any other day, Rad Abarrientos checks his mailbox.

But for over two weeks now — he still has not received the one piece of mail he is looking forward to — the official ballot for the 2019 Philippine midterm elections.

Abarrientos says his concerns grew based on previous ABS-CBN News reports detailing how the Philippine embassy in Washington DC only started mailing out about a quarter of the ballots last April 22nd — about nine days after the voting period started.

Consul General Henry Bensurto of the Philippine consulate in San Francisco says he and his staff are working hard to ensure all registered voters in the nine states in his jurisdiction get a chance to participate.
