RANCHO BERNARDO, Calif – She may have been close last year, but in her final junior tournament before she begins her college scholarship, the Philippines’ Daniella Uy took home one of the top US Junior tournament prizes winning the senior division of the Callaway Junior World Championship, scoring a 280 during the 4 day tournament.

She began Friday in 5th place but after finishing with a -4 score she made it to a one hole playoff tie breaker, giving her the coveted youth title.

She is the first Filipino to win the title since current pro Jennifer Rosales did it in 1996.

On Thursday, despite starting the final day of the girls 13-14 tournament in 3rd and 4th place, Yuka Saso and Harmie Constantino were knocked off the podium, as other girls made comebacks.

While the Filipinos showed power in their drives, their putting game caught a few bad breaks.

Constantino who entered as an individual finished 6th.

Saso, part of the elite Philippines team ICTSI fell to 14th, while her teammate Sofia Chabon who began Day 3 in 19th, caught up and tied Saso at 14th place.

For most of the Philippines’ representatives, it was their first time competing in the division and on this course. They were among the younger girls in the batch but they say they were surprised to have edged out a number of seniors in their division.

Mikha Fortuna, who took second last year in a younger division managed to place 35th.

Bernice Ilas finished tied for fourth in the girls 11-12 group, several more Filipinos including a few members of the ICTSI team will compete on Friday with possible top 20 finishes in reach. \
