Petition to declare Pacquiao a nuisance reaches Comelec

MANILA – A disqualification case against senatorial aspirant Manny Pacquiao has reached the doors of the Commission on Elections (Comelec), but the poll body could not accept it just yet.

The petition was left at the Clerk of the Commission’s Office by the petitioner. However, the Comelec could not deem the petition filed because the petitioner did not pay the filing fee yesterday.

The petitioner, a certain Ferdinand Sevilla of Makati City, argued that the boxing champion and Sarangani representative should be declared a nuisance for his chronic absenteeism as a member of the House of Representatives.

“Records show out of 70 session days of the HOR from January 20 to December 17, 2014, Pacquiao had the most number of absences with only 7 days present. While Pacquiao was consistently absent to train for his boxing bout, shoot his television programs or shoot hoops in basketball games, he was denying his constituents representation,” Sevilla said.

The same petition said that in 2013, Pacquiao incurred 60 absences out of 168 session days.

”He has failed to fulfill his mandate…He has wasted time, money and other sources,” he said.

The petition said Pacquiao has not retired from professional boxing and therefore cannot guarantee he will avoid absenteeism and ”conscientiously attend to his mandated task.”

Comelec Chairman Jose Andres Bautista declined to comment on the unfiled petition.

Meanwhile, Bautista confirmed that the poll body has issued a subpoena for Senator Grace Poe to respond to the disqualification case against her filed by losing senatorial bet Rizalito David.

Here’s a simple analysis of Pacquiao…when asked a question after a boxing match, Congressman Manny Pacquiao could barely express himself and give a fairly decent response. As a congressman for his district, what can he tell the average Filipino about seeking education, model-law abiding-good citizen without handing over a bag of rice or money on the side…Can Pacquiao explain to his constituents some new law he is sponsoring or attempting to pass? Is he active in Philippine Congress in addressing issues that benefits the eager people of Sarangani province?
