Peanuts Movie promises to bring back childhood favorite cartoon gang

NEW YORK CITY – The world’s most lovable underdog – good ol’ Charlie Brown, his dog Snoopy and the Peanuts gang are making their big screen debut like they’ve never been seen before.

Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Woodstock, Sally, Lucy, Schroeder, Pig Pen, and Peppermint Patty come to life in 3D animation in the 2015 Peanuts The Movie – directed by Steve Martino.

“This is Charles Schulz’s world, the greatest thing that I could do would be to bring his characters to life in a way that honored what he drew for 50 years,” said Martino.

Martino said the challenge now is to introduce these characters to a new generation of kids while staying faithful to the original look of the Peanuts Gang as created by Schulz.

So how do you take an iconic comic strip to the big screen?

Martino related, “The way we do Charlie Brown, like his smile, you could see like the little ink wells at the corners of his mouth, the little ink droplets for eyes, those are the ways that we find that pen line — that it always feels like it came from the hand of somebody creating it, not from a computer generating it.”

In the movie, Charlie Brown and his dog Snoopy embark on a quest to take down an arch-nemesis known as the Red Baron.

Creators said there’s a little bit of Charlie Brown in each one of us.

“Particularly on this project, there are tons of challenges,” Animation Supervisor Nick Bruno said, “But then at night I’ll be charging back up — tomorrow’s gonna be the day I kick that football.”

“We get a lot of laughs from Charlie Brown because when we’re laughing at him, we’re laughing at ourselves, because we can see ourselves in him, he just does it in a bigger way,” Martino said.

The film will commemorate the 65th anniversary of the Peanuts comic strip and Peanuts the Movie is scheduled to be released on November 6 in the U.S. and on January 8 in the Philippines.
