ASTON, CA — Six days after his 28th birthday, Bago City’s mighty Aston Palicte moved up in the World Boxing Organization Junior bantamweight rankings in a WBO eliminator match against Puerto Rican Jose Chiquiro Martinez at the Viejas Casino in Southern California.
He did it in knock-out fashion.
Coming into the fight, Palicte was ranked 2nd in the WBO, while Martinez was 4th.
After a slow opening round, Palicte knocked down the Puerto Rican fighter three times before the ref stopped a vicious barrage from Palicte.
Palicte has spent the month training alongside Manny Pacquiao in Los Angeles. Aside from a first-hand look at the Pacman’s work ethic, he says the fighting senator gave him a little incentive.
Palicte’s most recent fight was a draw against fellow countryman Donnie Nietes for the vacant WBO super flyweight world title.
The Roy Jones-prompted fight was streamed on UFC fight pass under a new partnership.
Palicte says he’ll wait for promoters to set the timeline for his next fight, which he hopes is a world title shot.
Now that mighty Palicte has taken care of business, he’s excited to finally go home and make up for all the holiday moments that he sacrificed during this training camp.
