Pacquiao undergoes drug testing again

LOS ANGELES, California — With a little more than two weeks before fight night, Manny Pacquiao is winding down his jogs and increasing his sparring sessions, going 11 rounds on Thursday.

“All of us were very happy for sparring,” said Pacquiao.

“Sparring was fantastic. Everything is there. Speed is there. Power is there. Everything is good,” said Pacquiao’s adviser Michael Koncz.

But as jogs wind down and sparring peaks, anti-doping officials have continued taking blood and urine samples, even accompanying the Pacman to his home.

While Manny Pacquiao continues to count down the days until the fight of the century, a pair of Filipino fighters has also been spotted at the Wild Card gym preparing for their big fights.

Mercito “No Mercy” Gesta recently signed with Golden Boy and after a pair of knockout victories, he will have a big fight against light welterweight contender Carlos Molina on April 30. That’s two days before Pacquiao takes on Floyd Mayweather.

“It feels really great man. Now I’m back and one of the biggest promoters, Golden Boy, signed me into their promotions. It feels great I’m back again and fighting again a big fight,” said Gesta.

The San Diego-based Cebuano has been training at several gyms in Los Angeles, including sparring sessions with former Pacquiao training partner Ray Beltran.

“I’m sparring with Ray Beltran and two amateur kids so this camp is really good, plus my trainer and my support with my trainer and dad also my brother is here with me. I just need to finish up in here,” he said.

Molina has come off two straight losses against two of the top 138 pounders, Adrien Broner and Amir Khan.

The fight will take place at Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio California, 48 hours before the so-called fight of the century.

“I’m excited of Manny’s fight against Mayweather. I’m motivated to train harder because I’m fighting before Manny and Mayweather and after my fight, for sure I’m going to watch that fight too,” said Gesta.

Another Cebuano fighter, Milan Melindo, has been training for a May 9 flyweight title match that will take place in Mexico.
