LAS VEGAS, Nev. – It has been almost a year when boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao last fought in the boxing capital of the world. Now, the fighting congressman is back again in a rematch against Timothy Bradley Jr.
The first match between Pacquiao and Bradley in 2012 ended with a split decision victory for the American boxer, a decision considered one of the most controversial in the history of boxing.
The questionable decision led to an investigation requested by the Nevada’s attorney general’s office as well as the office of US Senator Harry Reid.
Top Rank CEO Bob Arum spoke exclusively to ABS-CBN North America Bureau and said that this time, judges for the Pacquiao-Bradley 2 fight will not only be coming from Nevada.
“I talked to Cisco Aguilar, the chairman of the commission, and he promised me that now, they will cast the net for judges outside of Nevada so that we will have the opportunity for the commission to select judges from around the world from other states in the United States as well as somebody from Nevada so I believe that will get two outside officials and the top judge in Nevada,” said Arum.
Arum said Pacquiao won’t have a problem securing a Nevada State Boxing license to fight because Pacquiao’s tax woes have been resolved.
“First of all, he has no tax problem in the United States. That was an error and the assessment was lifted. The liens were lifted so he has absolutely no problem in the united States and I think in the Philippines that is not the concern of the Nevada commission and I believe that is also being resolved,” said the promoter.
Bradley’s fight purse dramatically increased by $1 million. His guaranteed fight purse in 2012 was $5 million.
“It’s a different Bradley now because since the Manny fight he fought Providnikov in the fight of the year and then he defeated Juan Manuel Marquez who defeated Pacquiao on his last fight so he deserves the extra million,” said Arum.
Tickets for part 2 of Pacquiao versus Bradley will go on sale the first week of February. Price ranges from $100 to $1,000.
Top Rank confirms that Pacquiao is scheduled to arrive in the US this Sunday for the Pacquiao-Bradley 2 press tour, that will kick off in Los Angeles then in New York.
We all knew how they resolve back taxes issue in the Phil. … Manipulating the numbers.
A sure win for Manny Pacquiao, by decision, so that there will be a third fight. Manny is getting older, he has to make more money for IRS and padulas for BIR(Bigay Ito Regalo). He has to make at least 2 fights a year until 2015-16.
