Pacquiao says Marquez victory was convincing

MANILA – WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao says he has yet to talk to his promoters about his next fight, and insists that no date, venue, or opponent has been set.

“Wala pa, wala pang napag-uusapan sa promoter ko,” Pacquiao said.

The “Pacman” is coming off a unanimous decision victory over American Timothy Bradley Jr. last April, and has said that he intends to fight again later this year.

“Hindi pa kami nag-uusap about the next fight, so wala pang petsa, wala pang buwan, at saka wala pa ring kalaban kung sino,” said Pacquiao.

It is possible that Pacquiao’s next fight will be a fifth meeting with Mexican rival Juan Manuel Marquez, who last weekend routed Mike Alvarado to become the number one contender for the Filipino’s World Boxing Organization welterweight belt.

Pacquiao said it was a convincing victory by Marquez, who had to recover from a ninth round knockdown to claim a unanimous decision.

“Oo naman, halos lahat ng rounds, sa kanya,” Pacquiao said.

Pacquiao and Marquez last fought in December 2012, a bout that saw the Mexican Marquez knock out Pacquiao with just one second to go in the sixth round.

It was the first time that a Pacquiao-Marquez fight had ended on a decisive note. Their first meeting in 2004 was a draw, while Pacquiao won two subsequent rematches via disputed decisions.
