Pacquiao makes basketball debut before record crowd

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – Boxing icon Manny Pacquiao made his professional basketball debut and received his first win as player-coach for the Philippine Basketball Association on Sunday.

Despite trailing as much as 13 points at the half, Pacquiao’s team defeated Blackwater Elite in an 80-66 win at the Philippine Arena.

The two teams played before a new record crowd of over 52,000 fans.

After the game, Pacquiao said he would take a break from basketball to focus on his upcoming title defense on November 22 in Macau, against undefeated American Chris Algieri.
