LOS ANGELES – The opening week of Manny Pacquiao’s training camp for Floyd Mayweather Jr. is in the books.
After Pacquiao’s Saturday morning job and ab workout, he playfully hit the swings at the Pan Pacific Park before joining a light pick-up basketball game.
On Sunday, he rested as he attended the Shepard of the Hills Westside Church, where he joined the worship services.
The church, which he has been attending the past few years, honored the Filipino boxer.
“He has a movie … and I watched it this week and I cried through the whole thing,” said Sr. Pastor Dudley Rutherford. “My wife kept looking at me. I was just bawling like a baby.”
“It shows where he came from and it shows why he boxes and how the Lord changed his life,” he added.
The church announced that on the Sunday after Easter, Pacquiao will appear on the stage where the pastor will interview the Fighting Congressman and share his experiences with faith.
“Manny is not just a champion, but he’s a champion for the Lord,” said Pastor Mike Johnson.
Business at the Wild Card Gym is expected to pick up this week as Hall-of-Fame trainer Freddie Roach is set to return from Macau.
