REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – According to the United Nations, one in three women worldwide will experience rape or assault in her lifetime. That equals to about one billion women who will be victimized by violence.

That’s why a global movement has formed to take a stand against violence toward women and girls.

Now in its second year, One Billion Rising is a campaign involving 196 countries that calls on women and men to gather on Valentine’s Day Feb. 14 at places of justice like courthouses and police stations to stand up and boogie against violence.

The worldwide dance rally begins in New Zealand and culminates in San Francisco where thousands of supporters are expected to attend.

Event organizer Marily Mondejar of the Filipino Women’s Network said Filipino rapper of the Black Eyed Peas will be performing at the San Francisco dance rally.
