LOS ANGELES – The Philippines’ Ice Prince is back on the road and ready to compete. After a month and a half off, Michael Martinez will compete again at the Triglav competition in Slovenia, his first competition since the Olympics.

“I’m really happy and excited to compete despite my injuries,” Martinez said as he waited to board his plane at Los Angeles International Airport.

After an early morning practice session, Martinez, along with his mother Teresa and Coach Ted Domingo left Los Angeles Monday afternoon.

The 17-year-old had to sit out the Junior World championships earlier this month due to some pre-existing injuries.

He received his medical clearance to compete late last week.

“Still not 100 percent because I still have pain in my lower back and right knee,” he explained. “But it’s manageable.”
Martinez will compete on April 4 and 6, and will be the youngest skater among the nine countries represented in Slovenia.
