Obama’s SOTU 2015: ‘The shadow of crisis has passed’

By Paul Henson, ABS-CBN North America Bureau

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – A noticeably revitalized President Barack Obama appeared Tuesday night before the new GOP-led Congress to paint the state of the nation.

“America, for all that we’ve endured; for all the grit and hard work required to come back; for all the tasks that lie ahead, know this: The shadow of crisis has passed and the state of the Union is strong,” he said.

Obama was buoyed by a growing US economy, increasing number of jobs, lower gas prices, and a job approval rating that’s the highest since the government shutdown in 2013.

By appealing to the needs of the middle class, Obama framed the political debate in the next two years.

“Will we accept an economy where only a few of us do spectacularly well? Or will we commit ourselves to an economy that generates rising incomes and chances for everyone who makes the effort?” he said.

Included in Obama’s proposals:

  • Lower taxes for low income families
  • Affordable child care
  • Guaranteed paid sick and maternity leaves
  • Equal pay for women
  • Free community college education
  • Higher wages

“To everyone in this Congress who still refuses to raise the minimum wage, I say this: If you truly believe you could work full time and support a family on less than $15,000 a year, go try it. If not, vote to give millions of the hardest working people in America a raise,” he said.

But to get these proposals to sail through Congress will be a challenge. The GOP congress is blocking Obama’s recent orders including his executive action on immigration.

For his part, the president made it clear that he will take an offensive stance.

“We can’t put the security of families at risk by taking away their health insurance, or unraveling the new rules on Wall Street, or re-fighting past battles on immigration when we’ve got a system to fix it. And if a bill comes to my desk that tries to do any of these things, it will earn my veto,” he said.

Republican Sen. Joni Ernst of Iowa delivered the GOP’s response to the State of the Union.

She appeared to take a less combative stance by saying she will not respond to the speech, but alluded to Washington’s faults, saying Congress has its own solutions.

“Americans have been hurting,” she said. “But when we demanded solutions, too often Washington responded with the same stale mindset that led to failed policies like Obamacare. It’s a mindset that gave us political talking points, not serious solutions. That’s why the new Republican majority you elected started by reforming Congress to make it function again. And now, we’re working hard to pass the kind of serious job-creation ideas you deserve.”

President Obama said he is willing to work with Republicans. But the tone of the message from both sides of the aisle seemed less than conciliatory.

As for the majority of the public, a recent NBC/Wall Street Journal poll shows people believe that a divided government does not work well for the country.

There are two Americas. A part of America works and OBOBOS’s America that doesn’t. The America that contributes and the America that doesn’t. It’s not the haves and the have nots, it’s the dos and the don’ts. Some people do their duty as Americans, obey the law, support themselves, contribute to society and others don’t.

That’s the divide in America. It’s not about income inequality, it’s about civic irresponsibility. It’s about a political party that preaches hatred, greed, and victimization in order to win elective office. It’s about a political party that loves power more than it loves its country. That’s not invective, that’s truth.

capitalism is the name of the game, that made america what it was, until obobo’s commie ideologue was voted in power, supported by radical soros, along with the breed of hardcore, socialists demonicrap politicians, who gained power, passed the partisan obummercare monopolized by 87% enrollee freeloaders. the rest who are whining have to pay the highest unexpected premiums.

obobo’s speech was all about him, taking credit for something he has nothing to do with the positive turn of economic events, such as low gas prices due to increase private land drilling/fracking at >60%, while federal land was at mere >6% allowed drilling, all for the liberal cause to hug trees, crude oil glut with opec uninterrupted productions, the pro pipeline of his opponent elephants have turn affordable gas prices.

the trillions of the 1% americans are either invested / sitting somewhere overseas. the rich ran away to foreign lands with their trillions, to escape obobo’s wrath of unfair taxations. obobo, either has to lose power tractions with the overpowering elephant or simply the 1% are in waiting mode till the end of obobo’s futile presidency, to bring the bacon back to america, where it rightfully belong.

obobo is a narcissist into his own grandeur belief he is an indispensable leader. his SOTU talks have made people realized he is such a great con artist. obobo’s plans are the same failed plans of reckless borrowings / spendings. all of his enumerated proposals is to legally rob the rich john, in order to hand the hefty dollars to lazy peter / illegal alien pedro. so while obobo cannot heavily taxed the american wealth in a foreign land, he will resort to borrowing more trillions from china just to fund his suicidal proposals.

obobo will never realized his commie ideologues caused america’s bad economy. obobo is irresponsible, refusing to acknowledge his squandering of the people’s money collected by the US treasury have gone dry, collected revenues are way too short to fund all of his freebie stuffs, and now more freebies on the way, if he has his ways, and all in his dreams to materialize equate to USA’s bankruptcy. the bit of a bounce of the economy happened after the midterm election with message – the elephants must save america from destroyer obobo.

“The shadow of crisis has passed and the state of the Union is strong”. what a clown that need to join the minor illegal alien border crossers free lunch recess, paid for by who else?, the hardworking taxpayers. WTF is this wacko POTUS sayin, which i quoted. america’s problems he created them all are still looming, hovering on top of the citizen’s heads. the same thing he was too proud to scream UBL is DEAD, Al-QAEDA is on the run, REALLY?. obobo again, and again is into firing up emotions of foolish people. all of obobo’s doings of destructions must be all trashed if america has to return to its former glory. all the garbage talks – its too costly to deport illegal aliens are nothing but spinning of the facts – its more costly to keep these illegal aliens with the hardworking taxpayers never ending financially shouldering illegal aliens, thus getting rid of them is like major house cleaning, which other free nations have done / continue to do, sending strong message to the world – those knowingly / willfully disrespecting their sovereignties will be sent back to where they all came from, no ifs or buts.
