Obama greets Pope Francis as he begins first U.S. visit

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – Pope Francis has finally arrived in America.  The pontiff touched down Tuesdasy afternoon at Andrews Air Force Base near Washington, with President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and their wives welcoming him upon his arrival.

These are the highlights of his trip:

On Wednesday morning, in Washington DC, the pope will meet with Obama at the White House and in the afternoon, will hold a mass of canonization of Blessed Junipero Serra.  In the nation’s capital, he will also address the U.S. congress on Thursday.

The pope is also going to New York, where he will address the United Nations general assembly on Friday.

Meantime, in Philadelphia over the weekend, he will hold a mass for the conclusion of the World Meeting of Families.

Pope Francis will be here in the U.S. until September 27.
