REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – The worsening crisis in America’s borders is now putting back the issue of immigration reform to the forefront.

President Barack Obama is now asking Congress $3.7 billion in emergency funds to address this border crisis.

The surge of up to tens of thousands undocumented children coming from Central America into Texas has renewed calls for a border security measure long criticized by Democrats and considered by the Republican Party as a must in immigration reform.

The recent tide of these undocumented children illegally entering the US has overwhelmed the federal immigration system.

The system is already buckling under the weight of the nation’s estimated 11 million undocumented migrants.

President Obama is asking Congress for money to beef up border security, go after smugglers, improve care for kids in federal custody, and speed up their possible return to their homelands.

White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest says the president’s Republican opponents who have criticized him because of this border crisis should also realize that they are blocking the passage of immigration reform, which could essentially improve America’s border security.
