NEW YORK CITY – When an African American man was killed by an Asian American police officer in New York, some members of the Asian American community were divided when it came to lending their support for the victim or the alleged killer.

A group of Asian Americans, including kababayans, tell Don Tagala why they’re not supporting the indicted Asian American cop Peter Liang.

According to doctor Gener Acob (NY resident), our kababayans there are becoming narrow minded and vulnerable that they are easily misled by non-factual sensational information dangerous perpetuated by various media source. Just because you are entitled to an opinion, that does not mean that is how things should run or the results should be. In any criminal justice setting, no matter what opinion the public has/have, every citizen is deemed to be innocent until proven guilty. In recent police shootings, there were many media sources with overwhelming non-factual information including opinionated blogs and are too far from the truth nor facts. The court rendered decisions on those shooting strictly based on facts and circumstances surrounding the shooting. Just because the public did not agree with the decision does not mean the court was wrong. If there is anything that would set police officers free, it is or was because the facts were on their side. Kababayans in New York need to understand this…nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty or property without due process…
