POMONA, CA — Paul Mendoza Allen and his wife Pauline Catibayan faced a judge in Pomona on Tuesday afternoon, both pleading not guilty to the charges against them.
Allen, a bankruptcy lawyer has been charged with two counts of attempted murder, and is being held on a $10 million bond.
Catibayan, who has been charged with accessory after the fact has her bail set at $2 million, which was lowered from five million on Monday.
Neither one has prior criminal records.
Lawyers for both defendants will also ask for a lower bail amount at Monday’s bail hearing.
Allan has been accused of shooting his former clients — an elderly couple — multiple times in their home before fleeing to Idaho, bringing Catibayan with him.
Relatives of the alleged victims say that say that the couple, whose identities have not been released due to safety concerns, remain in the hospital in stable condition.
The female victim just completed a successful surgery.
Defense lawyers also told the judge that they have not yet been given the discovery from this case, prior to the arraignment.
The charges against Allen carry a 25-years to life sentence if convicted.
