One of the world’s biggest boxing promoters has dropped a Filipino contender, According to reports, Mercito “No Mercy” Gesta was released by Top Rank.
The Cebu-born fighter who currently trains in San Diego injured himself during sparring earlier this year.
Less than a year ago, Gesta was undefeated and a top lightweight contender. His name had been floated in possible matches against Juan Manuel Marquez and Brandon Rios.
However he was out-boxed in his last fight, a world title match last December, as the undercard for Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez. It was his first loss in his boxing career. “No Mercy” was scheduled to return to the ring last July however his injury prevented him from his fight.
