REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – A 34-year-old Filipina mother was found dead on Monday inside her Jersey City, NJ home and authorities say her death appears suspicious.

The death of Monica Garcia-Montone is still being investigated by the medical examiner.

In a report by the Jersey Journal, Montone’s aunt and godmother Nierva del Rosario Casten says the family has been “catapulted into this never-ending pit of sadness” because of Monica’s death and that her goddaughter was the victim of a “crime of passion.”

Meantime, Monica’s husband Kevin Montone who was taken away by police after she was found dead in their home, appeared in court Tuesday.

He was arrested and charged with possession of heroin with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of school property, according to a criminal complaint.

But Kevin was not charged in relation to his wife Monica’s death.

The Montone’s 3-year-old son, who was taken away from the scene Monday is now being cared for by relatives.
