REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – The man accused of killing his Filipina girlfriend in front of her 5-year-old daughter last week appeared in a state superior court in Camden, N.J. Wednesday for arraignment.

The Kevin Ambrose, 52, was charged with first degree murder in the death of 41-year-old Jennifer Bongco.

Investigators said they have interviewed a witness who claims that Ambrose admitted to killing Bongco in a phone call. Authorities did not identify the person.

Authorities said Ambrose stabbed the Filipina nurse multiple times on July 25.

Her body was found around 12:30 a.m. on a roadside near her home, where Ambrose had also been living.

Prosecutors said the nature of Bongco’s stab wounds was not “reckless” – “it was purposeful, intentional conduct.”

Authorities also said that the victim’s 5-year-old daughter who allegedly witnessed the murder showed up at their home covered in blood and later told police that “mommy is dead.”

She gave detectives a recorded statement implicating Ambrose in the murder, according to authorities.

Prosecutors said Ambrose may face 30 years to life imprisonment.

Bond remains at $2 million.

Ambrose’ next hearing was not set at the time of the arraignment.
