New travelogue series about Filipino ancestry coming to Lifestyle Network

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — A reality travelogue that chronicles the adventures of Filipino-Americans experiencing the Philippines for the first time is coming to a screen near you.

“Discovering Routes” will air online as well as on TFC’s sister channels Myx TV and Lifestyle Network.

The new series features Utah natives Garrett and Miristi Gee.

While neither of the siblings had previously been to the Philippines, both had recently developed a curiosity about their Pinoy ancestry.

“I’ve always kind of had a lot of questions about where I came from,” Miristi said, “because I feel like I have a lot more of the Filipino side in me than maybe my other siblings do.”

Including a special connection with her Filipina grandmother.

“And so I really wanted to go find out and see what I could learn about myself,” she said.

That’s exactly what the Gees do as they explore different regions of the Philippines and learn new tricks and skills from locals.

“There’s such a value in being able to travel back to the country of your ancestry and learn about the culture,” the show’s executive producer, Keesa Ocampo, said. “It kind of fills a different kind of, I think, void that people might not know exists.”

For Miristi, it’s a life-changing experience that everyone should try.

“Because you experience things, you learn about yourself,” she said, “and I think that’s one of the most important things you can do for yourself and your life, is just go travel.”

Which is why she and Garrett take the necessary routes to discover their roots, starting Sept. 7 at
