REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – Just in time for Filipino-America History Month of October, a California city pays tribute to Filipino-American heroes by naming new streets after them.
The Bay Area city of Alameda has named two streets in new housing development – Larry Itliong lane and Philip Vera Cruz lane – in honor of the Fil-Am leaders from the historic farm workers movement of the 1960s.
A third street will be named Bohol lane.
The city’s development board invited residents to help name the streets of the “Alameda Landing” development. They were asked for names that would honor figures from the city’s diverse communities.
