From a playoff team with no all-stars, to landing a pair of superstars over the summer, the new-look Los Angeles Clippers have emerged as one of the favorites to bring home the NBA Championship this season.
Los Angeles area natives and now Clippers, Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, took part in the much-anticipated media day wearing their new Clipper uniforms.
Fresh off winning last season championship for the Raptors, the Klaw described the process of winning.
“Everyone being a high character, sacrifice, wanting to win, determination knowledge, all that together just being on the floor going out there as one unit all trying to accomplish that ultimate goal. I think that’s what drives a championship team and you just figure out the bumps on the roads on the way there. It’s about enjoying the journey and not getting ahead of yourself and not skipping any steps,” said Leonard.
This new Clippers lineup features a pair of elite defenders, something that excited George whom the Clippers grabbed in a trade.
“We really got a chance to do something special on the defensive end. Its gonna be an energetic thing. Watching Pat get out there picking someone for 94 feet thats gonna get me going, it’s gonna get Kawhi going, it’s just gonna become contagious on a nightly basis I honestly think for the first time people is gonna be excited to watch the defensive side, as opposed to watching an offensive team so it’s gonna be fin we can do a lot there’s a lot of versatility of what we can do,” said George.
For Clipper nation’s avid Filipino fans, this year’s Filipino American Heritage Night takes place early in the season on November 18th.
This year’s traditional night falls during the visit of George’s old team, the Oklahoma City Thunder, and fans will be treated to a halftime performance by Inigo and the national anthem by Jules Aurora.
And for two current Clippers, they’ve got experience playing an NBA game in front of a Pinoy crowd, in 2013 Paul George was a Pacer and Patrick Beverly was a member of the Rockets when their teams held the first NBA preseason game in the Philippines.
This year George and the Clippers will get some international flavor in their preseason schedule when they play against the Shanghai sharks and Melbourne United.
