REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – A Filipino American made U.S. Navy history last week when he took command of a naval carrier.

Cpt. Ronald Ravelo took command of the USS Abraham Lincoln last Thursday.

He is the first Fil-Am to captain a naval carrier. It was also the first time in Navy history that a change of command occurred between brothers-in-law.

The Lincoln’s outgoing captain, Cpt. Karl Thomas is married to Ravelo’s sister Jenny.

The change of command ceremony took place in Newport Wews, Va. where the USS Abraham Lincoln is docked for extensive maintenance. It is not scheduled to be deployed until 2017.
