LOS ANGELES– The musical celebrating the life of St. Pedro Calungsod will be re-staged at the Pantages Theater in Hollywood.
This will be first time that a Filipino production will be shown at the theater where hundreds of Broadway productions have played.
“It is significant that a play like this with religious tone could be presented to the public, especially in Hollywood. I know that it is an ambitious thing and it is a challenging task for us, but I think it is grace-filled considering that it is the year of faith,” said BISHOP OSCAR SOLIS of the Los Angeles archdiocese.
The musical titled “Fides Ecclesiae,” (Faith of the Church) features the life and martyrdom Calungsod.
The musical also features the story of Saint Kateri Tekakwitha, the first Native American saint.
The play features performances by volunteer priests and lay people.
“Fides Ecclesiae” follows the life of Calungsod as a young missionary in Guam.
At 17, his life tragically ended when he was killed by anti-Catholics. Since then Calungsod’s mission and faith have become an inspiration to many Filipinos, especially when he was canonized as a saint in 2012.
The show, to be held on February 10, will benefit the St. John’s seminary in Los Angeles.
