Miss Universe Organization president Paula Shugart proudly shows off to ABS-CBN News freshly-minted Catriona Gray comp cards.
Shugart says the Filipina beauty queen is getting ready to take on even busier days ahead, as she continues her Miss Universe reign.
One thing’s for sure, Catriona’s music will always play a big part in her reign as Miss Universe 2018.
Shugart says she is proud of the work the two recent Filipina title holders have done for charity and the Miss Universe movement.
“She is the essence of confidently beautiful, as was Pia… Cat really, I don’t know if it because of her prior pageant experience, she has walked into this very focused on what exactly it is that she wants to do and the change that she wants to make… and I really got the impression when we met that we’re here to support her to do that.”
The president of the Miss Universe organization also confirms that Stella Marquez Araneta, the matriarch of the Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. still owns the Miss Universe Philippines franchise.
Shugart clarifies that former Ilocos Sur governor Chavit Singson is and will continue to be a big partner for the Miss Universe organization.
“I also have an amazing relationship with Gov Chavit… He… I owe him an absolute debt of gratitude, I think all Filipinos owe him a great debt because my dreams since I have been here had been to bring the pageant to the Philippines and it absolutely would not have happened without him… He really did it for the Philippines.”
Singson has said that the Miss Universe 2019 pageant will be held in South Korea. But according to Shugart, that location could still change. The organization is not ready to make further announcements at this time.
