NEW YORK CITY — The long-awaited New York revival of Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boublil’s acclaimed musical, Miss Saigon., Miss Saigon, is back on Broadway.
The revival of the award-winning musical began its previews this week.
Miss Saigon fans and first timers packed the first preview performance at the Broadway Theater, including Filipino-Americans…
“Very excited,” said Adrian Ramos. “Last time ko napanood eh mga 15 years ago pa, excited na mapanood ulit.”
While many fans have seen this tale of a Vietnam bar girl and her lover over and over, through the years, this updated show is a whole new reason to see Miss Saigon again.
“All good things come back to New York — it was just a matter of time,” said Rob Ryan. “I can’t believe it’s in the same exact theater, [with a] new, younger cast, new generation of actors performing it.”
The 2 hour, 40 minute musical showcases the Filipino talent — playing most of the lead roles in their Broadway debut.
“It was amazing,” said the show’s lead, Eva Noblezada. “I had so much fun.”
“It was incredible,” said Devin Ilaw, who plays Thuy. “Iyak ako, twice sa stage, and then during curtain call… but it was amazing.”
Playing the role of “The Engineer” in his Broadway debut is a dream come true for Jon-Jon Briones.
“It’s amazing,” Briones said. “I’m exhausted, but I’m on cloud nine.”
Miss Saigon is celebrating Pinoy night in New York on Thursday, April 13th.
Special discounted tickets will be available for Filipino fans.
“Thinking about it, like performing in front of our kababayans… nakaka-excite, feeling ko my energy will be like, 100 times more,” says Rachelle Ann Go, who plays Gigi.
Fans also get to join a special talkback with select cast members after the show on Pinoy Night.
