Minneapolis City Council president calls for end to city’s “toxic” relationship with the police

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — All eyes in the Midwest, as these council members led a nationwide outcry to defund the police — a call to address systemic problems in policing in America.

The movement, ripe with emotion in the wake of George Floyd’s death in the hands of a police officer, wants more funding instead to go to housing and education.

But it’s being met by opposition from city officials and the Commander in Chief, President Trump, himself.
