LOS ANGELES – He’s a fitness instructor from New York and she’s a model originally from Michigan, but after flexing and strutting, beating out 29 other contestants, Andrew Aurellano and Natalia Lalonde are Mr. and Ms. Century Tuna Superbods US 2016.
“It is my lifestyle and being a Century Tuna Superbod, I plan on influencing those to live a healthy lifestyle and inspire those as well as educate the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle,” said Aurellano.
Used to going into casting rooms, doing the contest was a different experience for Lalonde.
“Being in public is difficult,” said Lalonde. “But it’s really awesome because I’m Filipino and I’m really into fitness, so it’s more fulfilling.”
Along with cash prizes Aurellano and Lalonde have scored free trips to Boracay to represent the US in next month’s SuperBod challenge. The two winners have recently been to the Philippines within the past several years and are excited to compete in the Superbod challenge.
“I really want to go back and this is how my mom coaxed me into it,” added Lalonde. “She was like just do it, you can go to the Philippines. It’ll be great.”
The two champions were among a small batch of non-California-based superbods, proving that not only is the Philippine tuna brand popular from coast to coast, but Filipino beauty stretches across the country.
“They’ll be joining the main competition and if they win, they’ll be our brand ambassadors,” said Jack Lumaban, Century export and marketing manager.
This is the second time the 30-year-old food brand has held a US search. This also marks the 10-year anniversary of the SuperBods challenge.
“It’s very, very exciting because we know there are a lot of Filipino Americans who are ambassadors of healthy living, which is what Century Tuna is promoting,” said product manager Macky Macapagal-Lim.
Century is not only looking forward to more American contestants in 2018, they also plan on expanding to other global regions.
When the US winners arrive in the Philippines, they will participate in more than just a competition–it will be days of health and fitness.
