SAN FRANCISCO – From the opening bell, Mercito “No Mercy” Gesta was the stronger and more effective fighter as he faced off against veteran Mexican boxer Luis Arceo.

Gesta countered the majority of Arceo’s punches and switched between an orthodox and southpaw stance throughout the fight.

Gesta says he is comfortable fighting in the lightweight class and will continue to improve.

“I’m not gonna stop here. I’m going to add more technique, and improve more – but I’m satisfied,” said Gesta. “Well right now our plan is to stay at 135 for now. But in this fight I go to 138 because it’s not a title fight. But I think it’s easy for me to go to 135 because I can still get it.”

Gesta’s father and trainer knew the fight was not going to go to a decision.

“That was our game plan,” said Gesta’s father. “Before 10 rounds, we will knock him out.”

Gesta’s mother was confident the father and son team could get the job done.

“I was nervous, but I believe in my son,” said Gesta’s mother. “His father is good at teaching our son and gives him amazing technique. And that is why he’s great.”

Gesta is also grateful for the other boxers, and fellow Filipinos who backed him.

“Thank you so much for all the support and keep believing,” said Gesta. “Please keep supporting our Filipino fighters – not just me – but for those fighters who are coming up.”

With quick and explosive punches, Gesta clearly dominated the fight in a way that made him attractive to the boxing world. He hopes to ride this momentum into a title fight in the near future.
