Mercito Gesta suffers first KO loss

It was supposed to be a big night for Mercito “No Mercy” Gesta as he headlined the inaugural Golden Boy Dazn Thursday night fight series.

Instead, the Cebuano lightweight suffered his first career knock out loss in the final seconds of the 9th round.

Mexican Juan Rodriguez connected with a solid left straight that eventually staggered Gesta and forced him into the ropes, causing the referee to end the fight as Gesta was a few seconds away from getting saved by the bell.

Now, Gesta will have to learn how to move on from a knockout loss.

The loss brings Gesta’s record to 32 wins, 3 losses and 2 draws.

This loss comes 14 months after Gesta was outpointed by world champion Jorge Linares. With this defeat, any hope for no mercy to get back into title contention will just have to wait longer.
