Meet the Pinoy fashion designer making his dreams come true in NY

Filipino Designer Jef Albea had only 15 minutes on the Oxford studio runway in New York to make an impact.

A chance of a lifetime to showcase his latest creations and wow New York Fashion Week buyers, editors and other industry influencers.

Albea, who started out as a theater actor at the Philippine Educational Theater Association, found himself designing for stage.

“Ang first time ko parang halloween show eh, so gumagawa ako ng costume ng kalabasa, mga ganun, that’s how I started.”

Even without formal education in fashion design, Albea worked his way up with only creativity in his blood.

“I got familiarized with sewing machine – kasi ang mommy ko mananahi dati at curtain designer, so yung mga makina na yan, nakikita ko na yan bata pa ako, so nag-aral kong manahi, nag-aral akong gumamit ng makina, from there duon ako nag-start mag design.”

With sheer talent, Albea made his way to the Dubai fashion scene and walked the London and New York Fashion Weeks.

His dream is to make it in the New York Fashion Scene.

“I want to make beautiful brides from New York, Yun Siguro, I want to see weddings here na nakasuot ng Jef Albea bridal dress.”

Albea believes to make it in New York is the first step for him to make it globally, as a world-class Filipino-made fashion design.
