The stunning visual effects of “Star Trek: Discovery” have earned critical acclaim, including at the recent Creative Arts Emmy Awards, where it was nominated for outstanding special visual effects.
Its lead VFX artist is Charles Collyer.
He brought his Filipino mom at the Emmys for his first-ever Emmy nomination.
Collyer started in tv shows like “CSI,” “Grimm,” and blockbuster movies like “The Hunger Games” and “The Amazing Spider-Ma.”
“I graduated went directly and worked on a short film. And then from there, just doing freelance work and then slowly, I met up with the guys that are supervisors on the show, and we’ve been working about 10 years now. So, digital compositor was where I started. I’m still doing that but in a different capacity now.”
In this visual effects breakdown from “Star Trek: Discovery,” the important work of artists like Collyer can be seen.
