LOS ANGELES – It was a Holy Week treat for Filipino travelers at the Los Angeles International Airport on Wednesday night as two of the biggest Filipino names in sports both headed home after their victories.

Boxing icon Manny Pacquiao along with his mother, internet sensation Mommy Dionisia, boarded a Philippine Airlines flight, while the Philippines Ice Prince Michael Christian Martinez and his mother went home via EVA Air.

“We’re going home!” an excited Mommy D said as she was checking in for her flight.

“Excited to bring good news to our country,” Pacquiao said on Tuesday night at a fundraiser party.

The two sports heroes who met last month at a party did not have a chance to meet at the airport as the Pacman entered just minutes before his scheduled departure.

The Olympic figure skater, however, hung around for a bit taking pictures with fans and a few of Pacquiao’s high profile team members including Attorney Jeng Gacal and Governor Chavit Singson, brother Bobby and, of course, the “Pambangsan Daliri” herself Mommy D.

“I’m so excited that I finally got to meet Mommy D,” Martinez said. “I’m so happy and I’m really excited to go back to the Philippines and meet my supporters and friends there.”

It’s been a triumphant journey for the star athletes as they both bring home championships in time for Easter.

Martinez, who trains in the US won the Triglav Trophy in Slovenia earlier this month and Pacquiao regained his welterweight title against Timothy Bradley this past weekend.

“I’m so happy to be another source of Filipino pride,” Martinez said.

While Pacquiao remains mum on his immediate plans, he’s been excited to join wife Jinkee who is due to give birth to their fifth child.

Martinez on the other hand, has his eyes on another prize early next month.

“If possible I think I’m going to rest first and then I have another competition in Dubai,” he said. “I’ll train in Manila at the Mall of Asia.”
