LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Bobby Ray Parks Jr. played for only three minutes in the first Dallas Mavericks game of Samsung’s NBA Summer League 2015.
Yet, it was a life-changing three minutes.
He made quite an impression on Mavericks Owner Mark Cuban.
“I think he did very well,” said Cuban. “You can tell that he was really, really nervous. He had fellow countrymen there watching him there that made him more nervous but he’s got NBA potential. He’s going have to work hard. Give him time just to acclimate. I think he did really well and not so nervous”
Cuban was also surprised about the Filipinos in the audience who supported Bobby Ray Parks Jr.
“Look we talk about loving basketball in the United Sates but there is no country basketball crazy than Philippines,” said Cuban. “I love it.”
“Pusong Pinoy po talaga ako lalaban po talaga ako hanggang sa huli,” said Parks. “Ibibigay po talaga natin ang lahat. Pride lang para sa country kahit small country po tayo.”
He adds that the NBA is a different ballgame and he is still adjusting to the team but he is optimistic.
The sacrifice from being away from his loved ones back home will land him a spot in the NBA.
“Nag aadjust pa rin po ako kase kailangan ng team chemistry kase yung sinabe nga nila na ibang level ito, international level na ito,” said Parks.
The NBA Summer League still has six days before its finals on Sunday.
