REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – There are now calls for the Aquino administration to order lifestyle checks on government officials, including members of Aquino’s cabinet who are implicated in the pork barrel scandal.
But Malacanang says it is still considering that option, and that option could take time.
Philippine Secretary Herminio Coloma says to order lifestyle checks on these public officials the government should first comply with requirements under existing laws.
Coloma says before the lifestyle checks can be lawfully conducted on government officials requirements must be met under the Anti-graft Law, and the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards of Government Officials and Employees.
There have also been calls for an investigation into their bank deposits, as well as the resignation of those being linked to the multi-billion peso scam.
But Malacanang says the allegations against these officials should not affect their work.
The Aquino government stresses that these cabinet officials are innocent until proven guilty and that Malacanang is committed to pursue the investigation based on evidence.
Those who don’t like lifestyle check means there is something fishy going on…
ComOn, look if you don’t do it right away on lifestyle checks on the government officials they all guilty of doing something wrong? This government officials how much money they make a month and how much can they save from the money they make a month? If they all have nice houses and nice cars something is wrong with that picture.
