LOS ANGELES – While Jason and Albert prepare for Pinoy Pride 37, another ALA fighter shows that it’s never too early to begin training — especially if it’s a chance to work with one of the greatest trainers of all time.
Over the years, 27 world champions and handful of Filipinos have worked with Coach Freddie Roach — the likes of Mike Tyson, Oscar Dela Hoya, Manny Pacquiao, Brian Viloria. And now, Mark Magsayo hopes to be the next in a long line of fighters to say they’ve hit the mitts with the legendary trainer.
In the last Wild Card training session for Jason and Albert Pagara, Magsayo hit the mitts with Coach Roach — an early birthday present for the 20 year old flyweight fighter.
The Hall of Fame trainer has given the undefeated fighter plenty of ring advice. Magsayo shared, “He’s taught me a lot of strategies to improve my skills.”
Magnifico fought last month in Cebu and is expected to fight in again this fall. But the 20-year old ALA prospect with a 14-and 0 record does not want to take a day off. He said, “I want to stay ahead in the game, especially before my fight in September.”
Many ALA fighters have come through the Wild card gym in the past couple years and Coach Roach, who has overseen their sparring sessions is all praises for the Magsayo and the Pagara brothers. “They’re very good fighters on their own merit. They work hard. They have good styles. They have good coaches. They have good managers. They have everything they need to be successful.”
While Magsayo remains in shape he’ll continue training with and touring California with his ALA family as The Pagara brothers will be headlines for the Pinoy Pride 37 on July 9th in San Mateo, California.
