#LoveWins in US fight for marriage equality

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – Throngs of same-sex marriage couples and their supporters gave an emotional rendition of the Star Spangled Banner at the steps of the U.S. Supreme Court Friday morning. It took decades for them to fight for marriage quality, and finally, they’ve won.

The Supreme Court extended the right to marry to same-sex couples nationwide in a landmark ruling. In a 5-4 decision, the court ruled states cannot ban same-sex marriage. President Barack Obama applauded the judges’ decision. He said, “It’s a victory for gay and lesbian couples who have fought so long for their basic civil rights. It’s a victory for their children whose families will now be recognized as equal to any other.”

The president added that the Supreme Court’s ruling affirms that all people are created equal; a founding principle of the United States. The U.S. is now the 21st country to legalize same-sex marriage. Married same-sex couples are now given the same legal rights and benefits as married heterosexual couples all over the country, and will be recognized on official documents such as birth and death certificates.

The lead plaintiff in the same-sex marriage case, Jim Obergefell, spoke on the steps of the Supreme Court after the historic ruling. He said, “Today’s ruling from the Supreme Court affirms what millions across this country already know to be true in our hearts…our love is equal.”

But not everyone is happy with the Supreme Court’s decision.

New Jersey Republican Governor Chris Christie said, “Our job is going to be to support the law of the land, and that under the Supreme Court’s ruling is now the law of the land. But I don’t agree with the way it’s been done.”

“I think that this is an incorrect ruling. I honestly think it should be left up to the states, if government should be involved in marriage at all,” said Republican Governor Robert Bentley of Alabama.

It is not immediately apparent when the ruling would officially take effect. But court mandates are usually issued after 25 days.

Same-sex couples and their advocates are hoping this decision would immediately spark a wave of marriages all over the country. The culmination of this equal rights campaign come as polls indicate that most Americans now approve of same-sex marriage.

this is a well divided SCOTUS decision, with the far out lefty judges ahead by one vote for same sex marriage. time will tell if the public in general will find comfort / acceptance on this ruling, or is it going to be like the fight between pro abortions / pro life, that never died, it continues to triggers the conscience of the populous, ever since roe v wade SCOTUS decision in 1973. people will never forget, it was obobo who made the same sex marriage triumph, brainwashing the general public that marriage is not exclusive between a man, and a woman, but inclusive to same sex marriage. so, what’s next legalize to marry man’s best friend for the sake of tax credits / asset protections?.
